Q&A With Our Summer Interns

Every summer, Ogilvy Health welcomes undergraduate students from around the country to apply to our Internship Program. Participants are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and form valuable connections in the healthcare advertising world. This year’s application pool was incredibly competitive, with only 12 students being accepted from over 500 applicants. We sat down with the 2023 interns and asked a few questions to learn more about each of them. Take a moment to read about this year’s best and brightest!
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of a top-producing advertising agency while forming valuable connections.
Who is your role model?
My greatest role model is my mom. As cliché as this may seem, there is no one who I’ve looked up to more in life. She truly exemplifies strength through adversity, persistence for one’s goals, and always remaining true to your character.
Why did you decide to do you summer internship with Ogilvy?
I decided to do my summer internship with Ogilvy because I wanted to learn from the best of the best. As someone who is passionate about brand marketing and content creation, I saw this as the perfect place to expand my knowledge of the advertising world.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I look forward to making meaningful connections and learning more about the world of PR in health.
Who is your role model?
My role model is my mother because her perseverance and tenacity continue to wow me every day.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I decided to do my summer internship at Ogilvy because Ogilvy’s mission resonates with me and taking pride in a company’s values is something I strive for on my career path.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I am looking forward to exploring a new field, developing management skills, and meeting new people.
Who is your role model?
Emma Watson has been a role model of mine for as long as I can remember. She became the face of Hermione for so many, chasing her dreams, and most importantly, showcased the ways in which being intelligent and nerdy are valuable assets for young girls. She fights for gender equality and humanitarian rights along with other forms of activism, such as education.
Why did you decide to do you summer internship with Ogilvy?
Coming from a STEM background, I chose to do my summer internship at Ogilvy because it is an opportunity to delve into medical communications and to make a difference in healthcare from an alternate standpoint.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I am looking forward to meeting new people at the office, having the opportunity to work with great accounts and learning more about the marketing process.
Who is your role model?
I believe my biggest role model is my mother. From her flexibility and boldness in complex situations, detail-focused work ethic, and confident self-expression, to her generosity and her big heart. I have been lucky to receive her guidance and have her as my role model.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship at Ogilvy?
I decided to do my summer internship at Ogilvy because I have been very interested in agency work and was very drawn to the internship program at OH. Also, I have not had previous experience in healthcare advertising or in the area of healthcare in general, so I am hoping to learn more through the internship!
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I am looking forward to gaining the experience and knowledge that Ogilvy has to offer, as well as meeting new people working in this field!
Who is your role model?
My older cousin has always been someone I have admired. She has the biggest heart and lights up every room she enters. She has always found importance in school and work, but also ensures to spend time with her family and friends, which is something I want to be able to do in life. She has also taught me the value of independence, strength, and to step out of your comfort zone to achieve what you want in life.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I decided to do my internship at Ogilvy because this was the best opportunity that I could have asked for in an internship. I believe it will be an amazing opportunity and I look forward to experience working with PR professionals.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I’m excited to horizontally and vertically network with people that I can learn from. I’m looking forward to learning about the industry, branding, and marketing in the real world.
Who is your role model?
My role model has always been my father. He is my inspiration. He travels a lot to different countries and is always curious about other people’s life experiences. He sent me to study abroad to become a multicultural person which broadened my horizons and sharpened my ideas. From him, I realized that human experience is not monolithic and this drives my passion to hear about different perspectives from other people. He rooted me in the habit of looking for new adventures and exploring experiences outside of my comfort zone.
Why did you decide to do you summer internship with Ogilvy?
Ogilvy Health captivated me for its transformative and innovative approach to close the gaps between pharmaceutical brands and patients. I believe my passion of healing illnesses aligns perfectly with Ogilvy’s mission.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I’m really looking forward to meeting the other interns and getting to know my fellow Ogilvyites.
Who is your role model?
Yvon Chouinard, Founder of Patagonia, is the quintessential embodiment of commercial success. With a strong connection to nature, he is a rock climber, surfer, fisherman, environmentalist, and philanthropist. I respect well-rounded people.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I started out as a Chemistry major and later transitioned to Film & Media Studies. Ogilvy Health is the perfect blend of both science and creativity, which perfectly reflects my background and interests.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I think I’m most excited about meeting new people and just being in a new environment. I also hope to learn more about healthcare advertising and how Ogilvy Health is contributing to this space.
Who is your role model?
My role models are my parents. They’re the hardest working people I know and have done a great job of guiding my siblings and myself. In addition, they’ve taught me the value of perseverance and determination and have really helped me grow spiritually and emotionally. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the sacrifices they’ve made and the advice they’ve given me.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
The reason I decided to do this internship is because I wanted to explore and learn more about the business side of healthcare. Most of my experience within the healthcare space has been more clinical, and I thought that this would be a good opportunity to broaden my horizons.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I’m looking forward to having new experiences and developing new skills.
Who is your role model?
I’m going to go with Marcus Aurelius because I think stoicism is cool. It encourages people to focus on being good and intentional in everything they do, to embrace challenges and believe in their abilities, which, I think, are all solid principles to empower fulfillment and success.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I decided to do my summer internship at Ogilvy because it is an institution with a long history of high performance, and doing work that seems interesting and purposeful.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I’m excited to inquire into the nature of things. There’s plenty of things to learn and people to meet, and I feel blessed to be doing those things with Ogilvy!
Who is your role model?
I believe that in order to grow, you need to surround yourself with people you look up to, and I feel like I’ve done that. My friends are all go-getters in their own lives and respective industries. Finding something to admire in any and everyone helps me never stop growing and pushes me to raise the bar regularly.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I wanted to live and learn with and from the best, and that’s what Ogilvy is to me. If you want to get better at ball, you have to play with the big guys, and Ogilvy’s a star-studded team in my eyes.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
I am super excited to work and learn alongside talented individuals. I am also looking forward to the new experiences and connections I will hopefully make during my time at Ogilvy!
Who is your role model?
My role model is my Grandmother, Cresencia. She was a strong and hardworking woman who not only raised her seven children, but also cared for those around her who were in need. She taught me the importance of being kind and respectful toward others and how important it is to show care and effort in all that I do, no matter how big or small the task. I am super grateful for the life lessons she has passed down to me, and I continue to use what I’ve learned from her in everything that I do!
Why did you decide to do you summer internship with Ogilvy?
As someone who has grown up in a family of healthcare workers, the healthcare field has always interested me. And as an aspiring graphic designer who wants to make a meaningful impact with my designs, I felt that Ogilvy Health, a company which focuses on the healthcare environment, was the best place for me to intern this summer.
What are you looking forward to most with this internship experience?
In addition to my proficient technical abilities, I am keen to explore the practical application of my past skillset within a professional milieu.
Who is your role model?
My role model is Oscar Peterson, who was an exceptional jazz pianist. Not only was he resilient and dedicated to music, but he also strived to achieve equal rights for Blacks during civil right movement.
Why did you decide to do your summer internship with Ogilvy?
I chose to do my summer internship with Ogilvy to gain hands-on experience in the challenging field of healthcare, and apply my functional knowledge about data analytics and neuroscience.
